Feeling stuck in your business? You’re not alone. In this post, I’m sharing how to get unstuck in business using optimism—one of the most powerful emotional intelligence skills you can develop.

So many of my clients lately have been feeling discouraged. Whether it’s cash flow struggles, hiring frustrations, or restructuring hurdles—these situations can make you feel overwhelmed, or even defeated.

But here’s the truth: your creative genius is still there, even if you haven’t called on it in a while.

How to Get Unstuck in Business with Optimism

Optimism isn’t wishful thinking—it’s a skill. In fact, it’s an emotional intelligence (EQ) skill that helps you see a bright future, even when your current situation feels uncertain or stagnant.

In moments when you feel stuck, here are the steps I encourage my clients to take:

Make two lists: What’s in your control, and what’s not. Then take action on the first list. Even small steps count. Every action builds forward momentum.

Model optimism: For example, think of someone who stays positive during hard times. What habits or mindsets can you borrow from them? What do they say, do, or think that keeps them moving?

Feed your mindset: Read something uplifting first thing in the morning. Use affirmations. Practice daily gratitude. These small rituals train your brain to look for the positive—and you’ll start noticing more of it every day.

Progress Begins With Small Steps

If you’re wondering how to get unstuck in business, start by taking just one action—no matter how small—on something within your control. As a result, you’ll begin to feel momentum. And momentum creates more of itself.

You’ve solved hard things before—and you can do it again.

Train your brain to see opportunity. That’s the real gift of optimism.

What Our

EQ-i Clients Say

“With Roberta’s background in both business and psychology, she understood our environment and how to navigate it. She is a humble, grounded leader and she knew how to draw things out of individuals and then addressed those issues in a very professional, non-judgmental way. The coaching has helped our entire team…we have become more communicative, approachable, and thoughtful in our responses. This change has made people more comfortable bringing ideas to the executive team…and the more ideas considered, the more our business flourishes! We are better listeners, which has strengthened our relationships with each other and also with our clients.”

Gerard M Hempstead, CPA, CFP®, Managing Partner, Northwestern Mutual – St. Louis

“Now our culture is one where better up-front accountability explanations occur, with a softer, more human approach. The team communication and collaboration is greatly improved, resulting in better ideas, a more streamlined work process, and an enhanced workplace environment.”

Not only did I learn so much about myself and my emotional intelligence weaknesses, Roberta shared tips and techniques for how to improve. I have since invited Roberta to work with my own organization and our leadership teams. Thank you, Roberta!”
